Why is Shannon’s promise to demand safer neighborhoods, attainable housing and less BS from City Hall different from other politicians? She has already been doing it!
From October 2018 until October 2023, Shannon Nordstrom served the community as an appointed Hearing Commissioner and Alternate Judge with the Las Vegas Municipal Court. During that time, in 2022, she also served a 5-month appointment as Interim Municipal Court Judge in Department 6. The greatest honor of her career has been the two programs she started while a Hearing Commissioner, Fresh Start Traffic and Fresh Start Specialty Court.
A Lifetime of Service
Shannon Nordstrom has a wealth of legal experience, holding a law license since 2001. Prior to her appointment as a judge, Nordstrom practiced law in various civil areas, including:
- Complex personal injury
- Legal malpractice defense
- Employment defense
- Estate planning
Nordstrom graduated with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she earned a J.D. and concentrated in Intellectual Property and International Law. Furthermore, she has been actively involved in volunteer work at both the community and national levels since 2008.
Professional Associations
Shannon Nordstrom is a proud member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (APRL), where she has been actively involved since 2008. Over the years, she has served on numerous committees and had the honor of holding all Officer positions during her tenure on the Board of Directors from August 2013 to August 2022. Additionally, she contributed her expertise as a member of the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being for several years. From 2017 to 2019, she had the privilege of serving on the State Bar of Nevada Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee.
Community Engagement
Shannon Nordstrom’s dedication extends beyond her legal career, as she has been deeply involved in various community initiatives. Notably, she has been a dedicated member of Scouts BSA since 2022, and also volunteers for and supports a variety of local non-profit organizations in the areas of veterans, addiction and recovery, homelessness, and underserved communities, including currently serving on the Advisory Board for Jewish Family Service Agency’s (JFSA) two senior programs, Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions. Her commitment to educating the community about the law led her to serve with Project REAL (Relevant Education About the Law) from 2008 to 2014. During her time with the organization, she served as the President of the Board from 2009 to June 2014. She has also volunteered at special events with Special Olympics of Southern Nevada and co-founded the First-Year Attorney/Student Mentoring Program at UNLV’s Boyd School of Law in 2008, among others.
